Free drinks at Verve Coffee house tonight 10/6

To anyone who hasn't heard, Verve Coffee and Arthouse on Spokane St. (across from library) is closing today and offering free drinks from 6 to 8 p.m.
I really liked taking the boys to Verve, and my 2-year-old especially liked going to the "coffee shop" because of a little play area set up just for kids. When I had to work from home in December I always got a lot done here because I could take advantage of the wi-fi or make phone calls while Diego played with the trucks and toys. The windows faci… Continue

Making play dough

I thought Playdoh was such a bargain until realizing I could potentially be buying a container a day, the way my 2-year-old likes to make cookies and things and leave them around the house. He doesn't understand the concept of it drying out yet.
So I've stopped buying the store kind, and looked up a recipe for home-made stuff yesterday. This was the easiest recipe I could find:

1 cup flour
1 cup boiling water
2 tablespoons cream of tartar
half cup salt
1 tablespoon oil

A beautiful, not quite sunny day

I'm doing the stay-at-home mom gig for two more months and it's tough to find things to entertain a 2.5 year-old without being totally bored myself. We love the library, Verve coffee house, Book and Game, Hastings, and the many city parks. But I'm sure there's lots more we could explore. Since it might rain today I think we are going to try to build rockets (small ones) out of toilet paper rolls and construction paper. If anyone has any other good kid activities or things to do in this fair city… Continue

A friend called me and told me I should check out the sheep at Last Chance Road, west of Walla Walla. She said there was one black sheep amongst the white. Turns out there were a couple of black sheep but the were pretty far away from the fence where I was. I had to wait until there were some heads aimed sort of towards me instead of all bottoms before I started clicking away.

There's something about grazing sheep that is timeless. And they could be in any country around the world. Universal would be the word.

Early in December I drove over to Kennewick. On the way back I noticed a field in which the irrigation water had been left on. The ice created some pretty cool sculptures.

Merry Christmas to all of you, and may you all have a joyous New Year!!
